TODAY'S empty-nesters and over-55s are increasingly bidding goodbye to the old family home and buying in to purpose-built apartment estates.
But that doesn't mean they are sacrificing space in the move. Aware of the new breed of empty-nesters' guest-stay, entertaining and leisure wants, developers are making these dwellings ultra-spacious inside and out.
The new golden age buyers tend to be healthier than their age bracket forebears and are demanding all the mod cons they've come to expect be in place at the new abode.
Here are two purpose-built estates on the north shore making waves in the baby boomer market.

Beumont

THIS boutique estate of 30 home-sized apartments and four penthouses set in leafy Wahroonga is creating a buzz.
Many are buying in to Beu¬mont (above left and right) as they want to downsize but still retain the luxury and have enough room for when the grandkids come to stay.
The units are set over three buildings and have three bed¬rooms plus a study, informal and formal living and two security car spaces - the pent¬houses score three spaces.
Developer the Carrington Group believes the location - a quiet, residential area close to the shops and railway and sit¬ting between Knox and Abbotsleigh schools - is the reason for the luxury units walking off, as well as their size and luxury inclusions.
Offering between 150sqm and 180sqm of internal space plus balconies ranging in size from 20sqm to 200sqm, fittings include stone benchtops, glass splashbacks, polished timber floors and carpets. Not bad at all when prices range from $1.12 million to $1.6 million.
That doesn't include the penthouses, which boast inter¬nal space of 180sqm and stone and timber-decked balconies of at least 100sqm.
